Maria Martinez (1887-1980) and Santana Martinez (1909-2002) (San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico)
Signed: Maria and Santana. A large plate, possibly utilitarian, made of highly burnished blackware with a rim decorated with a series of feather designs. Following her husband's death in 1943, famed potter Maria began working with her daughter-in-law Santana. Santana generally provided the painted decoration seen in the feather design.
