Early Indo-Portuguese Baroque Painted Teak Altar Fragment

This colonial era architectural fragment was found in Goa and would have originally topped an altar wall panel. It is hand carved and painted with foliate scrolls and beaded details with a central square frame representing the Five Holy Wounds or Stigmata of Christ. It may also refer to St. Francis of Assisi, who imitated the stigmata and who was a revered saint in the region.
